Chapter 20 Collapse at the Center & Into to part 6

It's very interesting on what happened in our world in the last hundred years.  Although my grandfather passed away 20 years ago he was a boy back in 1916. Not many Chinese served in the military but he was a Navy cook for two years.  He was still living in China in the 1920s. I remember him telling me it was very poor. So after the Great Depression around 1929 he immigrated to the US in the 1930's.  The 1930s in Germany  still amazes me what Hitler has done.  I think it's amazing how a short time NATO developed. During the harsh wars countries have finally gotten together to be allies.

Chapter 19 Empires in Collision

Who knew that in the early 1900s there was a drug problem with opium.  The British used it as a powerful trade advantage.  In the 1835-1836  opium made up over 50% of their trading commodity.  It damaged China because so many people were addicted to it that it destroyed so many families. There was also a rise of the New East Asian Power.  Japan created it own empire at the expense of China and Korea.  Japan had 250 years of peace. 1600-1850.  During that time they created a separate  currency, law, military, ect. By 1902 Japan made a name for themselves and known as one of the great powers of the world. During the war with China, Japan prevailed in 1895.  During the war with Russia in 1905 the same happened.  The Japanese military was strong.

Chapter 18

In the colonial encounters in Africa  it was not to pricing to see how the British took advantage of the African people. The British have always had an arrogant superior attitude.  Imperialism for the British was all about greed well and profit. The British had their hands in so many countries and still wanted more.

feb 27 Industrial Revolution Chapter 17

I feel that this revolution pros weigh out the cons in so many ways. I really like the idea that people are using their ideas to improve things. When example is invention of the wheel. Now that we are concept is used in more ways than just on a vehicle. The wheel is used in factories such as conveyor belts. But before the first vehicle was designed the steam engine move the ships on the water. To have a self-contained engine power but before the first vehicle was designed the steam engine move the ships on the water. To have a self-contained engine  changes the way the mode of the transportation world. I think it is fascinating and technology and science work together. Just about everything has a ripple effect on something else. The microwave oven for example use to cost over $500 in the 1970's when it was actually invented in 1946 which in those days could cost more than a weeks worth of pay. People in the 60's couldn't afford them and they were difficult and time consumin...

feb 15 Echoes of Atlantic Revolutions Chapter 16

The Britsh exposed their lifestyle on my parts of the world which were both good and bad. I do not encourage war but anger used in a way to protect yourself and your community is a good thing.  This has caused many revolutions between 1775 to the 1900s. The north American revolution pretty much started it. There was the beginning of anti-slavery movement French revolution. Haitian rel there was the beginning of anti-slavery movement, French revolution, Haitian revolution, the end of slave trade and eventually the abolition of slavery worldwide, sorta. It is not lawful anywhere to own a slave but it is still happening and some people are being charge for these crimes today all over the world. With all the harsh treatment of the slaves, there must have been some with good relations between owner and servant.  He mixed offspring had to have some emotional impact to both the mother and father. To get a bit personal, I personal can not imagine forcing a woman to have sex with me or...

Feb 13 Eurocentrism Part 5 & Chapter 16. (1st half)

The  British were a bit arrogant and spread there culture all over the world. I believe there are many pros and cons in what they did and the reactions that they caused.  History books and maps show Europe large than the actual square mileage. Land is based of the east and west of Britain. "the European moment" is powerful and imitated most of the world. I'm glad that the FAA (Federal Avaiation Assosication ) agreed that all hazardous materials traveling over one or more countries are in English so that anyone would be able to understand the content.  Another example is time. GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time which is the time Great Britain uses and the rest of the world either adds or subtracts to that it is happening in the exact same time.  For example if it is Tuesday Feb 13, 5pm in London it is also Tuesday Feb 13, 9am in San Francisco. We in California can made a phone call to the United Kingdom as we have are second morning coffee to a friend driving home fro...

Feb 8 Foundresses week

Sisters of Notre Dame be Namur  I had lunch with three sisters at my table. There are approximately 20 sisters in the room. They had a few things in common .   Most started off as teachers in the elementary grades. What happened most amazing is it through many years in their lives they give back to society .   When I found interesting and impressive is that they made a change and an impact on what they thought was important. One example is the connection  with education. Most proceed some sort of  doctorate degree. Most are well-traveled and they lived and worked in foreign countries for many years.

Jan 30 SND handout

In my opinion, Francoise has experienced so many wonderful things in her life. Being born in the elite class. By age 6 she was in a boarding school just a few kilometers away that was run by Benedictine nuns of the Abby Saint Michel.  Being around all the finer things in life, she knew very little about the joys in life.  Her grandmother exposed her to the outside world with the commoners.  She saw the people working the land, people that had just enough to eat and thoses who needed more.  Francoise was taught compassion through her own eyes. She has also been feed the finer foods in life and there was also plenty of it. It was not difficult to see that others were not as fortunate and some were just poor.  I'm sure she meet this children her age starving.  By age 12 she moved about 30 kilometers away to finish her higher education .  During those years she was encouraged to find her gift and passion in life.in her 20's she wanted to know more about ...

Jan 25 Religion Chapter 15

religion and science  Christianity started in Israel/Egypt regions. But in 1500 Christianity spread out from Spain and England to the rest of the world.   In the early 16th century the protestant reefer mission changed Roman Catholic Christianity. The reform began in 1517 when Martin Luther, German priest Posted the "ninety-Five Theses"by nailing them on the door of the Wittrnberg castle church. I thought Christianity is brought to China in the last 100 years but it looks like it was back in the 17th century Europeans introduced Christianity. The Jesuits made a good impression as being highly educated in science, technology, geographic, and map making.

Jan 23 Chapter 14 (2nd half)

Even though the early modern commerce me a lot of money through trade there's also lotta pain. Slaves have around for hundreds of years and during this time some the slaves had a voice that was heard.   I think it stems when the next breeding happened between the owners and the slaves. Had to be some connection knowing that the offspring with half blood. The relationship with unique but the same time it was a family relationship that had some emotional bond.

Jan 18 Early Modern Commerce Chapter 14 (1st half)

Chapter 14 In 1450-1750  economical transformation started. The Europeans in Asian countries had a big influence on the trade.  So many items were being treated such a cinnamon, nutmeg, clothes, sugar, pepper, silk, cotton, emerald, rubies, tea, slaves, alcohol, drugs, medicine and the list goes on. It was the early version of Amazon and it took months to receive goods that were offered for trade/sale.  The Portuguese was known for the "trading post empire"  back then there are no rules or enforcements. They would charge fees such as a tax up to 10 percent of what cargo was aboard.  That eventually stopped when the trading got bigger and countries such as Japan Burma India Persia resisted to pay .  As for Spain they realize they were missing out and now while to make up for lost time. When he arrived in the Philippine islands , Named after Spanish king Philip  II.   By 1600 the Philippines had a culturally diverse city, Manila which had more than ...

Jan 16 Chapter 13 Colonial Empires

Russia leadersership (Vladimir Putin) wants Crimea to expand the the Russian empire. It seems in today's world it's much harder to expand than it was 100 years ago. It seems like the world is better educated and more prepared to defend their territory. Many years ago  when the European came to America it was so much easier to just take land.  The map of time chart on page 555 spans from 1453 to 1707.  This makes me wonder how greedy most people in the world are. I understand making a better life, do what you can to get ahead, but the conquering of another persons land seems wrong.  Ottoman conquest of Constantinople, Spanish conquest of ass tech empire want to go empire established in India,  Ottoman siege of Vienna, Spanish conquest of Inca Empire, Spanish takes over Philippines are just a few of the bullet statements. The great dying was caused by all the disease that the Europeans and Africans brought. 90% of these diseases we today have a vaccine to com...
