Feb 13 Eurocentrism Part 5 & Chapter 16. (1st half)
The British were a bit arrogant and spread there culture all over the world. I believe there are many pros and cons in what they did and the reactions that they caused. History books and maps show Europe large than the actual square mileage. Land is based of the east and west of Britain. "the European moment" is powerful and imitated most of the world. I'm glad that the FAA (Federal Avaiation Assosication ) agreed that all hazardous materials traveling over one or more countries are in English so that anyone would be able to understand the content. Another example is time. GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time which is the time Great Britain uses and the rest of the world either adds or subtracts to that it is happening in the exact same time. For example if it is Tuesday Feb 13, 5pm in London it is also Tuesday Feb 13, 9am in San Francisco. We in California can made a phone call to the United Kingdom as we have are second morning coffee to a friend driving home from the market and about to start cooking dinner. I would consider that a positive things especially when dealing with travel. If I have a marathon to run in Berlin Germany on a Sunday morning 7am, I need to plan out when is the lastest I need to leave San Francisco to make it on time. One might think I can catch a red eye flight departing Friday 11pm (GMT -6) which is Saturday 6am Berlin time (GMT +1) Flight time is about 13 hours with one connecting flight which will put you at the Berlin Airport around Sautrday 7pm. Maybe eat dinner (again) and be in bed at the hotel by 9pm. If jet lag does not effect you ad you are a strong running is might be fine. But if you thought leaving Saturday 11am so that you could sleep in your own comfortable bed, save money on an extra night on a hotel room you would not be able to make the 7am start in Berlin because you would be at the airport the time the race started.
